The department is not structured correctly for a college of this size. (Chief, Deputy Chief, Administrative Lieutenant, Operations Lieutenant, Administrative Sergeant, 5 Patrol Sergeants, Police Officers, Public Safety Officers, a Dispatcher, and Contract Security Officers)

I know of many larger institutions with less of a Command Staff (This Place is Top-Heavy and has more Chiefs than Indians)

There is a major lack of leadership and training within the department.

I do not know what the Administration for the college asks of the department but it seems to me that they are focusing on the wrong things and not retaining the quality employees they should. Most of the Sergeants are young and not experienced enough to have even been hired as a Patrol Officer in the first place.

Currently they are looking for a Chief because the last one left after 7 months to head up Tufts University PD. I am sure he is receiving better pay but you have to ask yourself why would he entertain the idea of leaving so soon (If I had to guess it would be the Administration above but who am I to judge)

Over $130,000.00 a year, take home cruiser, administrative assisant, 60 member department with a great reputation. These are just some of the reasons I can think of why the Chief would leave. It doesn't matter which college or university you work for, there are always going to be differences between the administration and the college/university pd.

I've been here but a short time, but there always seems to be at least ONE ready to bash whatever establishment is hiring. Simmons actually sounds like a decent place to work, too bad I am on the other side of the state. Good luck to those who have applied.

Why does Everyone say bad things about such and such a place especially if they never worked there? Or if they have, respectively worked at such in such a place in the past maybe things have changed. It's all about attitude. Every job has potential to be mundane and boring but its What you make of it and getting home Safe is all that matters at the end of the day.

On a lighter note most of the Simmons Grads I know are Social Workers or Nurse Practitioners. I can't help but think of Richard Simmons saying In his voice.. I have my own college!
