Best wishes for the officers recovery.
May Swiss Cheese either succumb to his wounds or shit in a bag for the rest of his life, at the very least.

Springfield teenager shot by police is in critical condition and under arrest

An 18-year-old remains in critical condition and under guard in the hospital after being shot by a police officer early Sunday morning.

Tahiem S. Goffe, of 300 Berkshire Ave., was shot as he allegedly tried to run over two officers at about 1:30 a.m. on Taylor Street, near the intersection of Kibbe Avenue.

The shooting was one of two in Springfield that happened in less than an hour. At 2:15 a.m. a man was shot in the head and killed outside his 564 Chestnut St. home, according to Sgt. John Delaney, Springfield Police Department spokesman.

In connection with the earlier shooting, Goffe is accused of stealing a red Pontiac sedan. Police spotted him and two other people in the car and pulled him over on Taylor Street near Mastroianni's Auto Body. Four police officers in two cruisers were involved in the stop, Delaney said.

"They went to make an arrest and he started the car and rammed the officers' cruiser and then went after the two others," Delaney said.

Two officers were standing in front of the car when Goffe put it in drive. When he attempted to flee, he struck one officer, in the legs.

The officer fired a single shot, wounding Goffe. Delaney said.

Both were taken to Baystate Medical Center. The officer, whose name was not released, was treated and discharged, while Goffe remains in critical condition and it is unknown if he will recover, he said.

Shortly after the shooting, at least a dozen police cruisers, including unmarked cars, descended on Taylor Street near Kibbe Avenue to investigate. Taylor was cordoned off with police tape and a cruiser blocked Kibbe at Worthington Street.

With all the good people who live there, and with the decent neighborhoods that are in that city, it seems like Springfield is Massachusetts' Vietnam.

Stay safe all who work there! Speedy recovery to the injured OFFICERS, numerous infections to the suspect.

Springfield Police Officer Matthew Benoit, run down by car theft suspect on Taylor Street, treated at Baystate and released
Police officer Matthew Benoit, who shot and wounded a suspected car thief as the suspect ran him down on Taylor Street early Sunday, was treated at Baystate Medical Center and has since been released. The suspect, Tahiem Goffe, 18, of 376 Berkshire Ave., remained in critical condition Monday morning at Baystate Medical Center, Sgt. John M. Delaney said.

Goffe deliberately drove at Benoit, who was on foot, striking him and sending him airborne over the front corner of the vehicle and onto the pavement, Delaney said.

"The officer was able to fire a round at the oncoming car to possibly save his life," Delaney, aide to Police Commissioner William J. Fitchet, said.

It's not yet known if Benoit fired his round before, during or after the moment of impact, Delaney said.

"He's very lucky to be alive," Delaney said. "Our police officers are trained for this. I consider Officer Benoit to be a very good proactive police officer -- all our police officers are. It appears that his training kicked in."

Goffe, who suffered a single gunshot wound, faces a number of charges including attempted murder, receiving a stolen motor vehicle, assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon, Delaney said.

Two juveniles in the car were also charged with larceny of a motor vehicle.

Delaney said the incident began about 1:30 a.m. when Benoit and Officer Brendan Curran saw a stolen car in the parking lot of the U-Haul business on Taylor near Chestnut Street.

The vehicle, a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am, had been reported stolen the day before from the parking lot of the Racing Mart on Boston Road. It was occupied by three suspects.

Officers Scott Richard and Ivan Ross came to assist Benoit and Brendan. Police then saw the Grand Am pull out of the lot and head east down Taylor.

Richard and Rosa followed the vehicle down Taylor Street and Benoit and Curran sped east on Worthington, which runs parallel to Taylor, took a left on Kibbe Street and placed their cruiser in the path of the stolen car.

Police said Goffe, boxed-in, gunned the engine in reverse and smashed into the cruiser driven by Richard and Rosa. Then, police said, Goffe put the Pontiac into drive and drove at Benoit and Curran, who were now on foot.

Afterwards, the Grand Am came to stop. Police said the passengers in the front and rear seats refused to unlock the doors, forcing the officers to break the windows to get them out of the car.
Police saw that Goffe suffered a single gunshot wound, they grabbed their first aid kit and treated him until EMTs arrived on the scene.

Both Goffe and Benoit were then taken to Baystate. Benoit suffered lumbar strain, hyperextended knees, lower extremity contusions and he remains on paid administrative leave, Delaney said.

Goffe has a long history with the Springfield Police Department and has been arrested numerous times as an adult and a juvenile, Delaney said.

A mug shot, released by police, stems from a July 25 arrest, Delaney said.

18-year-old Tahiem Goffe, shot by Springfield police as he allegedly ran officer down, dies at Baystate Medical Center

Eighteen-year-old Tahiem Goffe, shot by a Springfield police officer early Sunday morning as he allegedly ran down the officer on Taylor Street, died Monday night at Baystate Medical Center, according to police.

Police said Goffe deliberately drove at Police Officer Matthew Benoit, who was on foot at the time, striking Benoit and sending him airborne over the front corner of the vehicle and onto the pavement.

"The officer was able to fire a round at the oncoming car to possibly save his life," Sgt. John M. Delaney said.

Benoit, who remains on paid administrative leave, was treated at Baystate Medical Center and released. Delaney, aide to Springfield Police Commissioner William J. Fitchet, said the department has begun an internal investigation into the shooting, as it automatically does with any shooting involving a police officer.

The results of that investigation will be forwarded to Hampden District Attorney Mark G. Mastroianni.

Goffe, who suffered a single gunshot wound, was also taken to Baystate, where he was listed in critical condition earlier Monday. Delaney was unable to provide information Tuesday morning as to what part of Goffe's body was hit by the bullet.

The vehicle Goffe was driving, a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am, had been reported stolen the day before from the parking lot of the Racing Mart on Boston Road, police said. It was occupied by three suspects.

Officers Scott Richard and Ivan Rosas assisted Benoit and Officer Brendan Curran in the pursuit of the stolen vehicle Sunday, after the Grand Am was spotted eastbound on Taylor Street.

Richard and Rosas followed the vehicle down Taylor Street as Benoit and Curran sped east on Worthington Street, which parallels Taylor Street. Benoit and Curran turned left onto Kibbe Avenue and placed their cruiser in the path of the stolen car.

Goffe, boxed-in, gunned the engine in reverse and smashed into the cruiser driven by Richard and Rosa. Then, he put it into drive and drove at Benoit and Curran, who at that point were on foot.

Afterwards, the Grand Am came to stop. The passengers in the front and rear seats refused to unlock the doors and police had to break the windows to remove the suspects from the car.

Police, seeing that Goffe was injured, grabbed their first aid kit and treated him until ambulance personnel arrived at the scene, Delaney said.

Springfield NAACP president Talbert Swan calls for investigation into shooting death of Tahiem Goffe | masslive.com

Just like clockwork... The head of the Springfield NAACP would of had no issues if this thug would of killed the officer. Another example of the black community in Springfield blaming others for a gang member's violent acts. I'm waiting the "Reverend" Swan to imply that Goffe was acting in self defense. Good job Officer Benoit !

SPRINGFIELD - The Rev. Talbert W. Swan II, Springfield branch president of the NAACP, Friday called for an independent investigation of the shooting death of Tahiem Goffe.

Goffe, 18, died of injuries inflicted by a gunshot wound in the wake of a confrontation with police Nov. 6.

"The Springfield Branch NAACP is requesting an independent investigation to ensure that proper police procedures were employed and that the investigation will not be compromised," Swan said.

Swan said Friday that ideally he would like an independent prosecutor to look at the case.

He added that at the very least he would like the D.A.'s office to look at the police investigation and for the D.A. to release the results of its investigation.

"My policy is to review all police shootings," Hampden County District Attorney Mark G. Mastroianni said Friday.

ahiem Goffe, 18, was shot by Springfield police on Nov. 6 after police said he drove at Police Officer Matthew Benoit, who was on foot, striking Benoit and sending him airborne over the front corner of the vehicle and onto the pavement.

"The officer was able to fire a round at the oncoming car to possibly save his life," Sgt. John M. Delaney said.

Your Comments: Readers react to NAACP president Talbert Swan's call for indpendent probe into police shooting of suspected car thief accused of running down officer

Frantic calls of "shots fired," followed quickly by reports of a gunshot victim and an officer down, elicited a swift response from Springfield police during the wee hours of Nov. 6. When the dust settled on Taylor Street, an 18-year-old driving a stolen car was shot once by police, who claimed the teen struck and injured an officer while attempting to mow down cops with a sedan.
The Rev. Talbert W. Swan II, Springfield branch president of the NAACP, has called for an "independent investigation" into the shooting of Tahiem Goffe, who later died from his gunshot wound...
What do you think? Are the local probes, including the Springfield Police Department's own internal investigation and a standard review by the district attorney's office, enough, or does the Rev. Swan have a point? Should an additional outside investigation by an independent body be conducted? If so, which agency should handle such an inquiry?

The comment section is actually pretty good, seems like everyone is tired of Swan failing his community and grandstanding about racism.
