Some colleges, Salem State College is one, that has been issued firearms, I saw them at the ranges a few weeks back. They said they were issued within the last year. Maybe others will follow suit with events like this one at Dean.

As far as I'm concerned, if you have powers of arrest, you should be armed. Unfortunately, campus police, like those who work for the VA or hospitals, are subject to the whims of their administration.

Most state schools have armed Security officers, they are considered Police, they go through an academy, and Bridgewater State College carries.

The main reason I don’t think Dean will carry is the fact they are a Private College, I have not seen any private college carry firearms, Since Dean is a small school, they must think it is to much of a liability for their security (Police) to carry firearms.

However seeing the students that go to dean, from going to Dean and delivering there, I would rather Dean College police carry.

BTW delivery drivers are 1 spot lower than police in the list of most dangerous jobs. Wish I could carry, no one would tip bad then.

Amherst, Bentley, that private school in Wellesely, Wellesely College, MIT, Harvard, Boston University, Boston College, Wentworth Institute of Technology, Assumption College, that theological seminary on the north shore too.

Only 10 private schools carry? That isnt a lot compared to how many private schools there are in massachusetts.

I believe there are 60 private 4 year schools and 12 private 2 year schools, so thats 72 schools that are private in massachusetts.

9 private schools that carried would be 12.5%.

I'm sure there are more private schools that carry, but there are not that many, less than 20% which is not a lot.

If you notice a school in the wrong location post, and ill fix it.

I'm assuming that Franklin Pd took over this invest. I can't see campus security being much help with something like this, unless they have a crime lab in their guard booth.
Hey Sarge31 not to start a pissing match here, BUT we are NOT security at Dean College. We are fully authorized POLICE OFFICERS. IT was joint investigation.

Not to be off topic a little but Dana Hall a High School carries.

My fat arse was on a WBZ new clip this year at the Cove garage fire.. When I get home from college today I will find the link and post it. :FM: :eek:t:

WPI, Gordon College and Clark University carry. WNEC is in the process.

Just a note, that long list should include which instituions have PD's (licensed PO's) or security.

Had a chance to visit your glorious college this week. If I sneezed, I would have missed it all. I like your "public safety" office in the basement. I noticed lots of custodians going in and out.......is that where they clock in? or does the Cpl. working the desk sign them in?

Yes I saw you in your grey Crown Vic. is that a company car or are you one of those guys with the tricked out wanna be ex cruiser. Did you find the Science Center OK. Pretty soon we'll all be out of jobs and they will be bringing in Hurley of America Security so we wanted to make sure the cleaners knew were their new office would be.

:eek:t: With the new arrest procedure in place, ie: NO ARRESTS, if you need a door unlocked or a ride somewhere be sure and stop by our cozy little office.

Love the job Hate the place I work and the people I work for.

Sarge I didn't get the PM, glad to see you found your way, I take it the Corporal was very helpful in between him checking in cleaners.
