I have a friend who is interested in becoming a Cape Cod summer officer. They asked me a few questions:

Do they get paid for the academy?
Do they get help in finding a place to live?
When does the application process start?

Thanks in advance

only because i'm in a good mood:

Do they get paid for the academy? no, you should have at least the R/I academy before you even apply.

Do they get help in finding a place to live? some do, some don't.

When does the application process start? generally they start way back in march, so your 'friend' is waaaaaay too late, although probably enough time to go through the R/I academy before next season.

The guy wants to be a Cape Cod summer cop halfway through August?

Tell him to start applying for the 79th RTT. He stands a better chance. Just make sure you're available that week to sit with him during the interview.

It's amazing how people open themselves up by coming in here looking for info for "a friend." I think one of the best traits a law enforcement officer (or potential one) has is initiative.

Information on becoming a summer officer on the cape is extremely easy to find and if you're "friend" can't be bothered doing a little legwork on the recruitment process how can he be bothered tracking down witnesses and sorting through witness statements once he gets on a department.

But to be fair if he actually wants this information he should get sponsored and get his R/I academy in during the fall or early winter because these towns post these jobs around February.

And Yes he'll probably have Chapter 90 !

I think Amity Island is still hiring summer Deputies for all the shark problems they've been having. It's mostly marine patrol work making sure Jaws doesn't rip anyone in half. The Chief over their is Martin Brody and he really knows his shit. I think the person in charge of recruiting and the marine unit is still Capt. Quint.

As you can see they have a lot of down time.

Quint rocks!
Quint: What do we got here? Portable shower or a monkey cage?
Hooper: Anti-shark cage.
Quint Anti-shark cage? You go inside the cage. Cage goes in the water. You go in the water. Sharks in the water. Our shark.....Farewell and adieu...

Does this twerp even know that there's no "Cape Cod Police Department" ?? He sounds like he thinks it's all one place.

Do you work for AAA by any chance ??
What he doesn't realize is that a COD is a form of fish species. Depending on what department you work for you could be...

Cape Cod
Cape Quahog
Cape Shrimp
Cape Lobster
Cape Shark

I would apply for any of these departments with the exception of "Cape Shark" for obvious reasons.

One of the best exchanges in the movie. The chemistry between the three of them made that movie the classic it is today. Not the shark, not the stuff on land (though without the stuff on land, there'd be no stuff on the water) and not Mike Dukakis' kid being in the movie, it was those three together that made that movie.

What was this thread about again?

So which one of your multiple personalities is the friend looking for the job?;)

Why not say "I am interested in a summer cop job on the Cape, and I know nothing about how to get started."

I have more respect for honesty then for some one beating around the bush.

Don't expect it from that guy. he's the same one who threw his chief under the bus in two different threads and did not respond to anything that anyone posted. Notice how he still hasn't relplied on this one? Time to take the attention away from this turkey and close the thread. Like a car without an engine, ain't goin anywhere!

Everytime Quint starts laying into Hooper I get a good laugh. Robert Shaw made that movie great.

Ya this thread started out about hiring summer beach cops. Maybe he was thinking he could do this all summer?
