I lived it.....I applied for a seasonal position back in the days before electricity. I smoked the PT test (I had just gotten out of the Army) and scored a 98 or 99 (can't remember which) on the written test. When the phone didn't ring, I knew it was the Yarmouth PD. And that, boys & girls, is one of the reasons why civil service is useful. It makes nepotism inconvenient and costly, which is at least somewhat of a deterrent.
Yes they do. Haven't seen him around these parts lately. YPD has an excellent FB page which will give prospective applicants an idea of their activities. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Yarmouth-Police-Dept/156644224350602
"Academy attendees shall be considered non union STUDENT OFFICERS (MGL41-96B) and will be responsible for a $3,000.00 Training Fee,( Training fee is subject to change)"
I know a few people there that were in lower cape departments before going to Y.P.D. They are all very happy with the place and they have been there for more than 5 yrs.
Yes, it is really that bad. Between politics and the allowing of self-sponsoring (which is a HUGE mistake IMO), you're pretty much fucked if you're a non-veteran without the full MPTC academy and no connections.
