At long last, a final salute

LOWELL -- Yesterday morning, 2nd Lt. Martin P. Murray received a letter sent to him nearly seven decades ago.

It was placed in his casket at St. Patrick's Cemetery, where 67 years after his B-24 vanished over Papua New Guinea, he was finally laid to rest with full military honors.

The returned letter, stamped "missing in action," sat safely tucked away in a cedar chest for nearly 70 years. Christine Moran could not bear to throw it away.
