ATTLEBORO - An employee of a South Attleboro auto dealership keeping watch on the business foiled the theft of tires from a car on the lot and enabled police to apprehend two suspects late Sunday night.

Nicholas R. Iaciofano, 17, of 19 Geldar St. in Cumberland, R.I., and Kiel M. Marchand, 22, of Attleboro, were arraigned Monday in District Court on six related charges.

They were arrested following a foot chase by Attleboro, Pawtucket and state police after 11 p.m. Sunday night, when an employee of State Line Auto Brokers on Route 1 called about suspicious activity on the lot.

When Attleboro and Pawtucket police arrived, two men fled in opposite directions. Police found the lug nuts taken off tires on a 2001 Nissan Maxima, which was jacked up.

Iaciofano was arrested in the area of Westminster Street in South Attleboro near the Pawtucket line. Marchand was found hiding in a freight train at nearby State Line Scrap, with the help of a state police dog names Britta, police said.

The suspects face charges of stealing parts from a motor vehicle, trespassing, possession of burglar's tools, being disorderly, disturbing the peace and resisting arrest.

Marchand was ordered held in jail on $2,000 cash bail. Iaciofano, who has no prior criminal record, was released without bail.

Both are due back in court Aug. 21.
