Police say a Worcester man did the right thing, at least at first, when he pulled over on Rte. 9 early Thursday morning after an officer stopped him for speeding.
While the officer checked Adrian B. Ramirez's information on his patrol car's computer, however, Ramirez took off down Rte. 9 in his Mercedes SLK-320.
"The officer put the information in the machine and he (Ramirez) booted," said Lt. Brian Grassey, a police spokesman.
The officer chased the Mercedes a short distance, but when speeds hit 80 mph, a superior officer called off the pursuit.
"The traffic was light at that time, but it was only a motor vehicle infraction," Grassey said. "We weren't sure what he may have had (to make him run)."
Ramirez, 25, was later pulled over on Rte. 9 in Worcester, and Natick Police arrested him.
Ramirez, of 80 Outlook Drive, Worcester, was charged with driving with a revoked license, driving without a license, failing to stop for police and driving a vehicle negligently as to endanger, police said. He was also cited for speeding.
Ramirez was also wanted on an arrest warrant from Georgia, but it was a non-rendition warrant, meaning police there will not come to Massachusetts to pick him up.
Ramirez pleaded not guilty at his Natick District Court arraignment yesterday and posted $500 bail. He is due back in court on Dec. 2 for a pretrial conference.
