Worcester County correction officer hospitalized after attack this morning By Scott J. Croteau TELEGRAM & GAZETTE STAFF WEST BOYLSTON — A correction officer was attacked by a weapon-wielding inmate this morning at the Worcester County Jail and House of Correction. The officer is being treated for what appear to be puncture wounds to the head and the chest area, said Sheriff Lewis G. Evangelidis. The correction officer was rushed to UMass Memorial Medical Center - University Campus in Worcester. The identity of the officer has not been released by officials. The attack occurred about 11 a.m. The sheriff did not detail the type of weapon used. The sheriff said the inmate was also taken to a hospital for what appeared to be self-inflicted wounds. The inmate, who was not named, has a long history of violence and weapon possession, the sheriff said.
