SHREWSBURY-
A Worcester woman has been sentenced to jail time for shoving a police officer while he was arresting her for having drugs in her hotel room.

Luz N. Colon, 43, of 701 Main St., Worcester, the People in Peril shelter, pushed Officer John Pitro while he was attempting to cuff her in a room at the Worcester City Motel on Route 9. She jumped on a bed and had to be restrained by police.

"We ... attempted to restrain Colon and she started to hold her arm from us so that we could not put handcuffs on her," Officer Pitro wrote in a police report.

Ms. Colon was arrested on a warrant at the motel on Aug. 2. She was sentenced yesterday in Westboro District Court. Judge Paul L. McGill sentenced her to 90 days in the House of Correction, with 53 days already served, for assault and battery on a police officer. For the charges of possession of crack cocaine and resisting arrest, she received 50 days in jail, concurrent with the first sentence.

When police searched Ms. Colon's hotel room in August, they found a glass pipe with a black residue from crack cocaine, near the headboard of the bed.

Court records show Ms. Colon was on probation for a previous drug offense when she was arrested. She has been arrested multiple times on drug possession charges.

The Worcester City Motel, at 235 Boston Turnpike, is a regular stop for Shrewsbury police, who tend to make frequent arrests there.
