WAKEFIELD (AP) ― Wakefield police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run in town.
Police say a woman was struck by a car while walking along Greenwood Street near the Melrose line at about 11 p.m. on Monday.
Witnesses told police that the woman was struck by either a green or tan Audi with darkened windows. Police were still searching for the car on Tuesday.
The victim was taken to Melrose-Wakefield Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Police are still trying to identify the woman, who is described as about 40 years old, about 5-foot-5, heavyset, with brown hair. She was wearing a white sweat shirt, jeans and brown hiking shoes.
