A 33-year-old Surfside Beach, SC man was arrested late Sunday for pretending to be a police officer to kidnap a 34-year-old woman, police said.

Christopher S. Guajardo of 525 N. 17th Ave., was charged about 9:45 p.m. Sunday with fraud and impersonation, aggravated assault and kidnapping, a police report showed
Police said they were called to Fourth Avenue North and Chester Street by the woman, who said Guajardo identified himself as an officer and ordered her inside his pickup truck and said he had several questions for her.
Once inside the truck Guajardo patted her down and told her he would decide if he needed to arrest her, the report showed. The woman said she asked him several questions as he drove her to the parking lot of the police department where he made several phone calls.
The woman said the man told her he was checking her name through a database to see if she was ``clear,’’ the report showed. The woman attempted to call 911 on her cell phone, but the man told her to stop that he was letting her go.
The woman said the man drove her back to the area where he picked her up, but he did an intrusive search of her before he ordered her back into the vehicle, which she refused, police said. The man then told her she was free to go and he left.
Guajardo drove by where police were questioning the woman and she identified him and his truck, police said.
