Man posing as officer demanded woman's purse

ATTLEBORO - A man pretending to be a police officer attempted to steal a woman's pocketbook while she was changing her baby's diaper in the parking lot of a popular South Attleboro restaurant early Saturday night.

Police said a man approached a woman visiting from Maine waiting to go to dinner at the Olive Garden in the Bristol Place shopping center, identified himself as an officer and asked to inspect her pocketbook.

Other family members told the mother, according to city police officers, that the man didn't appear to be a police officer and was pulling a scam.
