A Plattsburgh, NY woman has avoided jail time for abusing an elderly woman in her care. 63-year-old Sherry Demarais was charged in July after police say she forced the elderly woman to kneel on hot pavement and wear a diaper in public. Demarais later pleaded guilty to a felony charge endangering the welfare of a vulnerable elderly person. Prosecutors wanted jail time. A judge placed Demarais on probation for five years and ordered her to perform 300 hours of community service.
