BRAINTREE -
A Canton woman was arrested on several larceny charges as the result of an investigation into the theft of a pocketbook at the Shaw's supermarket on Pearl Street.
On Sept. 8, a 42-year-old Braintree woman reported that she was at the meat counter when her pocketbook disappeared from her shopping cart, police said.
The victim later learned that her credit card was used at several locations, including the CVS and Rite-Aid stores in nearby South Braintree Square, police said.
After viewing surveillance video from both pharmacies, Detective Mark Sherrick gave Detective Susan Zopatti the suspect's description and learned that she was investigating a similarly described woman in connection with a similar crime in Townsend.
Zopatti gave Sherrick the name and photo of Amanda B. Alexis, 51.
Alexis was later identified as the woman who used the victim's credit card at CVS and Rite-Aid.
When Sherrick looked at video from Shaw's, he saw Alexis entering the store with a pink pocketbook and leaving with a different one.
Police said detectives learned that Alexis worked for a company on Georganna Street and arrested her there Tuesday.
During a search of Alexis' car, police found the victim's wallet, credit cards and other identification, along with credit cards and identification for at least two other victims who reported their pocketbooks stolen in Norwood and Boston.
Alexis is charged with two counts each of larceny of property worth more than $250, forgery, passing a forged document and a charge of larceny of property worth less than $250.
Police said Alexis could face additional charges that include thefts in other communities.
