SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A Springfield woman is being charged after being arrested for mail theft and assault and battery on a police officer.
Wilbraham Chief of Police Allen Stratton told 22News that Wendy Woods, also known as Wendy Early, is in police custody for mail theft. Back in July, she was alleged to have taken personal mail from some Wilbraham neighborhoods and used that information in over 30 larcenies at retail stores in Massachusetts and Connecticut.
On Wednesday of this week, East Longmeadow Police notified Wilbraham police investigating an incident of mail larceny involving a car from Connecticut. That vehicle was spotted by a Monson Police officer working construction traffic detail on Main Street in Wilbraham.
Officer Daryl Buley asked the driver to shut off the engine. When she didn't, he reached for the keys, and the driver took off, dragging him about 25 feet. Officer Buley wasn't injured and he later managed to identify the suspect.
That suspect, Wendy Woods a.k.a. Wendy Early, was taken into custody in Springfield Thursday. She is being held at the Hampden County House of Correction.
