A 67-year-old Melbourne woman faces a charge of battery on a law enforcement officer after she allegedly struck an officer on the face and scratched her arm and neck, Melbourne police said.
Betty Daniels Gayle is being held on a $7,500 bond at the Brevard County jail.
Police said they were called to a Ross Department Store at 1850 Evans Road Monday evening about 7:30 p.m. after they received reports about Gayle, who had allegedly been verbally abusive towards employees at the store.
Gayle then struck Officer Charmaine Lawrence on the face and then tried to wrap the officer’s radio cord around her arm, police said.
She also faces charges of depriving officer of means of communication and resisting an officer without violence.
