A Community in Support of Officer Shawn Lee of the Wilmington Police Department
Bone Marrow Registry Drive and Blood Drive
    Saturday, May 21, 2011
    8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Wilmington High School Cafeteria, 159 Church Street, Wilmington, MA
The Wilmington Police Department will be joining with the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the American Red Cross to host a Bone Marrow Registration Drive and Blood Drive on Saturday,
    May 21, 2011.
The Blood and Bone Marrow Registration Drives are being held in support of Wilmington Police Officer Shawn Lee, who is currently being treated for Acute Myeloid Leukemia. The Registration/Drive will be held from 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the Wilmington High School Cafeteria, 159 Church Street, Wilmington, MA.
More than 35,000 people in the United States are diagnosed each year with leukemias, anemias, myelodysplastic disorders and other life-threatening diseases requiring treatment with a blood stem cell or bone marrow transplant. Nearly 70 percent of these patients must rely on an unrelated donor. Finding a compatible donor is a challenge. The opportunity to register and/or donate blood will help many patients in need.
Officer Lee is a 38 year old husband and father of two children. He is a resident of the Town of Wilmington. Officer Lee has been an Officer with the Wilmington Police Department for the past nine years and serves as a member of the department’s Honor Guard. Shawn is a proud Veteran of the United States Air Force, having served in the Gulf War.
Mary Anne Lee, Officer Lee’s mom, states "Family is most important and Shawn hopes this Registry Drive and Blood Drive will help other patients and their families." Officer Lee and his family are overwhelmed by the expression of support and care offered by his extended family, friends, fellow officers and the residents of the Town of Wilmington. This is his way to make a difference!
