What type of iteams do Auxiliary Police officers carry? Baton, Cuffs, OC Spray ect.

The Cambridge Auxilliary Police Department

The Attleboro Auxiliary Police Unit carries a full duty belt, cuffs, oc, asp etc... the authorized weapons are 38's or 357's 4 inch barrel with 38 +P rounds. There was talk of giving them our old Glocks when we went to Sigs a few months ago but that never happened.

When I was on the aux unit I carried a Ruger GP100 357 Mag

I checked their site [ http://www.rescuecenter.net/capd1.html ] and did not see anything on it, I guess most would assume that they carry the basics. The only department that I can recall that has a limited duty belt is Waltham. I don't remember exactly what they carry but I believe that they are not armed.

If you have your LTC they can call you up for armed emergency details, But for the most part it's only oc spray and handcuffs. I did hear that they are trying to get back the arrest powers and go armed but that might take a while.

Randolph Auxiliary carries the same as the full timers Glock 22's.

Waltham Auxiliary Police Officers aren't armed or batons, we just have OC. We also carry cuffs but that is to assist the FT Officers if they need an extra set ( We don't have arrest powers either).

Last I knew, Lawrence Aux. PD Officers could be armed after the R/I academy and quallifying on the range. Privately owned 9mm autos only.

In Somerville we carry a full duty rig. Cuffs, OC, 14" Baton if you choose to. And we have Dept Issued S&W 6946 9MM Same as the regulars. Mostly just Sergeants are armed we have 1 Patrol Officer armed right now. They only give us a limited number of weapons to use which kinda stinks.
The Regular Dept. has a new Chief and the Aux Director is now the Deputy Chief so we may be getting better stuff, We hope. We'll see though.

I know, I'm not.
I've been there 2 1/2 years so I know how it works. It's better to be Optimistic then Pessimistic.
Plus the regular Dept is going through alot of changes.

Natick Auxiliary - OC and cuffs. Although they may have batons now, not sure. NO police powers.

Maynard Auxiliary (Specials) - they have the full boat of gear (armed) and full police powers.

To tell you the truth, I don't think many town treat auxiliaries as good as we do. Our Chief is from New Hampshire and they use allot of auxiliaries.

We carry a full duty belt, 9mm or 40 cal. We do not ride with the full timers. We have our own patrol cars, and patrol town owned property.
