So sad......... Unofficial reports say the officer succumbed to his injuries. As usual people are bashing detail cops in the comments sections saying that we don't pay attention like we should. UGH.

WEYMOUTH -- A police officer suffered life-threatening injuries today when he was pinned beneath a pickup truck after being struck while working a road detail, according to police, a town official, and witnesses.

The officer had been directing traffic at a utility work site near the intersection of West Street and Route 18. According to witnesses at the scene, a Mazda pickup truck was making a left turn when it collided with a car and struck the officer, pinning him under its front left tire.

The crew from National Grid had been working on overhead wires when they saw the crash and helped pull the pickup truck off the officer, according to Ted Wheeler, a safety specialist with National Grid.

"My guys are rattled," Wheeler said. "They did their best to clear the scene. It's just an unfortunately situation."

Emergency medical technicians working across the street at Quality Care Dialysis ran to the crash scene and also tried to help. Police responded to the call at 9:50 a.m., according to Lieutenant Neal Ahlstedt of the Weymouth Police Department. An ambulance rushed the officer to South Shore Hospital.

Town Councilor Michael Molisse identified the officer as Michael Davey, a father of three who is the son of a police officer.

"He's just an outstanding police officer, a real all-American guy," Molisse said. "It's just devastating to the town of Weymouth."

Investigators remain at the scene and trying to determine what happened. No information was released about the driver of the pickup truck or the other vehicle, a Toyota Camry. Police have not cited or charged either driver.

At least there are some people out there that get it. This comment is from WCVB's website under the story.

"I just got a phone call that this "POLICE OFFICER" has passed away. I can not believe that people can make such comments as Redstone13 and the others that have been removed. ( thank God the inappropriate tab works). I knew this officer. He was a Son, Husband, Father and an Irag War Veteran who saw some of the worst fighting over there. His son played baseball with mine, he is 13 years old. Tell him his father wasn't doing his job. Tell him he was just watching the the workers and if he was doing his job it would never had happened. I can not believe people can be so ignorant. Today this young boy becomes fatherless and takes on the roll of " MAN OF THE HOUSE". Comforting his mom and younger sister. Why? BECAUSE HIS FATHER WAS DOING HIS JOB!

Shortly after I copied this comment it was deleted.
