WESTPORT - Police arrested two people for allegedly stealing electronics from vehicles that were vandalized in Westport, Freetown and Seekonk.
James Maucione, 19, of Fall River, and Alissa Aguiar, 18, of Seekonk, were apprehended after police stopped their vehicle around 1 a.m. Saturday on Davis Road. The vehicle was traveling with its headlights off, police said.
After the traffic stop, a resident in the nearby neighborhood approached police officers to report the two suspects had stolen items from inside his vehicle.
According to police reports, Ms. Aguiar told police she and Mr. Maucione had been breaking into vehicles along Davis Road, Barbara Street and Tripp Drive. She said they also broke into cars in Freetown and Seekonk.
Inside the defendants' vehicle, police found several reported stolen items that included GPS units, a radar detector, two iPods, a satellite radio receiver, an MP3 player, five pairs of sunglasses, a tape recorder, a small television, a nail gun and three knives.
Both defendants were arraigned Monday on charges that include breaking and entering into a motor vehicle for a felony, larceny over $250, and receiving stolen property over $250.
The incident remains under investigation by officer Todd Oliver and the Detective Division.
