SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) Two people are dead after a weekend wave of violence in Springfield.
Saturday morning started out on a sour note. A man was stabbed six times on Harvard street. Police charged 22-year-old Manuel Villaneuve with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

Hours later, the call for a double stabbing on Dickinson Street. A 21-year-old man would later die, his roommate suffering life-threatening wounds. Police arrested 22-year-old Timoteo Diaz on murder charges.

More violence late Saturday night an 18-year-old man was shot at Andrew and Dawes Street. The victim was taken to Baystate Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the upper torso.
Fresh off a fatal stabbing Saturday, detectives were back at it early Sunday morning after a 50-year-old man was stabbed downtown Springfield. He later died at Baystate Medical Center. A woman who is friends with the man says he was homeless and slept on the streets.

According to Springfield Police Captain Robert McFarlin another two men were shot at point blank range at a Mobil gas station in the city's north end just before 3am Sunday morning. They suffered serious gunshot wounds.

A spate of crime many say has to stop. Efficiency is the goal of Mayor Domenic Sarno, telling 22News Sunday police are doing a good job, but challenges persist.
