WATERBURY, Conn. (AP) - A Waterbury police lieutenant has been fired for his handling of a domestic violence incident that involved a former police captain.
Police Superintendent Neil O'Leary says Lt. Greg McCarty, an 11-year veteran of the force, was fired Tuesday after an internal affairs investigation and a disciplinary hearing.
Officials say McCarty failed to follow departmental policies when he was called to a suspected domestic violence incident last month involving Police Capt. Michael Edwards, a former Waterbury officer who was fired last week.
An internal affairs report shows McCarty omitted important details of the incident when he contacted a superior officer.
The report says McCarty also left the scene and allowed Edwards to return to his girlfriend's apartment, where she was again assaulted.
