June 01--A 16-year veteran of the Washington State Patrol who was once named Trooper of the Year died Friday evening after a collision in Skagit County in which he was thrown from his motorcycle.
Sean O'Connell was on duty as a motorcycle officer in Conway, south of Mount Vernon, when he was struck by a box truck and thrown from his cycle, according to a WSP spokesman, Trooper Mark Francis.
O'Connell suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to Skagit Valley Hospital, where colleagues and WSP Chief John Batiste gathered.
