A warrant has been issued for the man who police say posted sex ads under the name of Town Meeting member Jim Rizoli.
The man, William Tulaba, of Framingham, never showed up for his 9 a.m. arraignment at the Framingham District Court yesterday.
A warrant for his arrest for failing to appear was issued at 4 p.m., according to the clerk's office.
He faces one count of criminal harassment in connection with a series of obscene personal ads - sporting titles such as "Looking for my donkey show," - soliciting gay sex under Rizoli's name which were posted late last year.
The ads listed Rizoli's personal contact information, including his phone number.
Police traced the IP address for the ads back to Tulaba.
Police seized Tulaba's personal computer from his Auburn Street apartment.
One of the ads featured a picture of Rizoli holding a microphone. Next to the picture was a photo of male genitalia and a ruler.
Another ad sought sex from multiple men.
Rizoli said people began propositioning him after seeing the ads last December.
The ads may be only a part of an online dispute between Rizoli and Tulaba's family.
Rizoli, 56, of 94 Pond St., who lost bids for selectman and state representative during the past decade, correlates the smear campaign to his opposition to illegal immigration.
Rizoli heads a group called Concerned Citizens and Friends of Illegal Immigration Law Enforcement. He hosts a television show on local cable called "Illegal Immigration Chat."
In an April interview with the News, Tulaba's wife, Ellie, called Rizoli racist and described his show as "disgusting."
Ellie and William Tulaba are both American citizens. Ellie Tulaba, 29, has Brazilian ancestry and has lived in Framingham for 13 years.
A call to their home was not returned yesterday.
While Tulaba did not appear in court yesterday morning, Rizoli did.
"The fact that he did not show up proves he has no respect for the law," Rizoli said.
