NORTH ATTLEBORO - A robbery attempt outside of a Dunkin' Donuts Tuesday was foiled when the victim struck his assailant, who then fled the area.

The incident occurred around 6:50 a.m. at the Dunkin' Donuts between Park Street and Route 1, and is under investigation.

Detective Lt. David Dawes said an employee of the doughnut shop was outside cleaning the area around a trash bin when the would-be robber stuck a weapon to his throat.

However, the victim struck the man, who then fled from the area. No motor vehicle was seen, Dawes said.

Dawes would not say what type of weapon was used. The doughnut shop was open for business at the time, but the incident occurred outside the building near the trash bin facing Park Street, Dawes said.

The would-be robber was described as a Hispanic man around 30 who was about 5 feet, 6 inches tall and weighed about 160 pounds.
