NASHUA, N.H. -- Former Milford, N.H., Selectman Doug Bianchi has been handed a suspended jail sentence, a fine and 200 hours of community service after being convicted of helping a gambling operation at the town's Veterans of Foreign Wars post.

Bianchi was an officer at the post. He was accused of leasing video gambling machines and convicted of conspiracy to commit gambling and liability for the conduct of another.
Police said the machines were illegally paying out cash winnings. Video poker machines are legal, but only if used for amusement.
