Anyone know the hiring process of the VA Police Dept? What should I expect, length of time of the process, physical agility test (cant find info on it) and any other pertinent info?

    Thanks!

Did you get your letter of conditional hire, or have you recently applied?

Yeah, like he said, normally 4-6 months total. However, Bedford is painfully shorthanded, so I don't imagine you'll wait long for a response. As far as the PT test, if you can make it up 3 flights of stairs, consider yourself overqualified. :)

PT is 2 minutes for the p/u-s/u with a timed 1 mile run. It's a joke really. Quality said it right. If you can get yourself up 3 flights of stairs you are way over qualified.

Gig is good though. I've been on with the VA for almost 2 years and as an agency we are getting better. Bedford should be hiring again soon. REAL Soon. Keep and eye out on usajobs.gov if your interested.

Academy has been lengthened to 8 weeks from the measly 5 it was and they are talking of expanding that to 12. Just got FLETA(Federal Law Enforcement Training Accreditation) Certification as well. Overall, the place is getting better and ranks out as the largest Federal LE Agency. We have over 3500 uniformed officers.

Forgive him, he's still young and eager, so shit like a new type of baton and being an FOP Lodge president keeps him rolling. LOL!

New baton yes. Especially coming from the PR24. I'm definitely not a FOP Lodge President tho. Someones giving you bad info. ;)

I am young and eager tho. :D

I'm currently in the hiring process with VA police in the san francisco bay area. I passed my psych evaluation just recently and i'm scheduled to take the medical exam inabout two weeks. Do I get a start date after I complete and pass the medical exam or do I have to wait until my background check is completed? I have a secret clearance with the department of defense. Would this help in my background check?

Usually once you pass the psych and med they give you a start date. You won't go to LETC until your background is completed tho. If you do, you won't come home with badge and creds. Unfortunately your SC has nothing to do with the VA in OPM's eyes. Even though the MBI they are doing on you is less intensive by half, they still won't even look at it. Hope this helps. Good luck!

    Alex!
Why you asking here? Don't you have enough VA police out there in your region?

It could take days, weeks, months, or even years. Don't give up and remember that Robert Sicard is watching over you.

Do they still have the key test part of the final exam. You were supposed to cut a key on the key cutting machine in 30
Seconds in order to pass the academy!!
