JOB SUMMARY:

Incumbent is responsible for the enforcement of federal, state, and local laws and the Department of Veterans Affairs' rules and regulations pertaining to the physical protection of patients, visitors, and employees. Responsible for enforcement of all offenses against the criminal laws of the United States, the protection of all personnel, property, and civil rights of Medical center grounds, and the preservation of the peaceful environment of all property owned and controlled by the VA. Incumbent patrols station buildings and grounds in all weather conditions for the purpose of observing and reporting violations, and provides maximum visibility in all station buildings and grounds to deter against crime and provide a secure environment for the employees, patients and visitors. Incumbent wears prescribed uniforms, approved arms, and applies police techniques in dealing with law enforcement. Incumbent's mission is to prevent acts of a criminal nature from occurring and to arrest and prosecute when efforts to prevent crime have failed and all other reasonable options have been exhausted. Also performs other duties as required.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Selectee must successfully pass the basic course at the Law Enforcement Training Center. Selectee must pass a physical fitness test, as well as an annual and psychiatric examination in accordance with established medical standards. Selectee must qualify and maintain semi-annual qualification with assigned firearm.

KEY REQUIREMENTS:

* Background and/or Security Investigation required.
