Police: Student Assaulted Thursday Afternoon
GORHAM, Maine -- Officials at Gorham's University of Maine campus want students, especially women, to pay close attention to their surroundings after an assault on a female student and another close call.
Campus police said around 2 p.m. on Thursday, a female student reported she was grabbed from behind by a male while walking to class.
Police said around 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, a different female student said she was followed by a male who was too close for comfort.
Police said both women offered the same description of the suspect.
Police said the suspected is a white male in his early twenties with a bald or shaven head. He has light-colored eyes, a medium build, and is about five feet seven inches to five feet nine inches. He was wearing a black T-shirt and khaki or light camouflage shorts.
USM police reminded students of some safety tips. They said to always try to walk with someone when possible, go directly to a populated place if you are being followed, report any suspicious persons or vehicles immediately to police, and check your vehicle before getting inside.
