Can anyone shed light on the 2 week basic training program for 30-35 year-olds (with prior military or professional experience) who will become petty officers after training? The 2 weeks training sounds great for someone who can't afford to take 8 weeks off for basic training. The website mentions advanced training afterwards. How long is that?

The 2 weeks is held in Cape May New Jersey and is more of an orientation than a boot camp. The focus is on Coast Guard tradition and structure as well as basic rules and regulations. Make sure you memorize the book they provide you before the school. As far as the advanced training goes, you will need to go to "A" School for your chosen rating. The lenghth and location of the "A" School depends on your rating. If you have any further question feel free to pm me. I spent 8 years in the Coast Guard on active and reserve.
