NOTICE OF EXAM
The UMass Amherst Police Department is currently accepting applications from individuals interested in taking the entry level police exam scheduled for April 27, 2013.
DUTIES OF POSITION: Under direct supervision patrols an assigned area for the purpose of enforcing state laws relative to the prevention of crime, the apprehension of offenders, the protection of property and persons, the preservation of public peace, and the control of traffic; performs investigative duties, and related work as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Possess a valid Massachusetts driver's license.
Possess a Class A License to carry a firearm at the time of appointment.
Successfully complete a 22 week Municipal Police Training Academy
Successfully complete an in-house 14 week post-academy field training program.
Ability to work at any hour and in all weather conditions.
Ability to learn and demonstrate job requirements after being trained.
Base Salary: $42,380 with a seven step increase to $55,783. State benefits including health insurance and tuition reimbursement.
Additional compensation: uniform allowance ($875 annual), shift differential ($40/week) and generous overtime opportunities (rates: $30-$46/hr)

Applications are kept on file for one year after date of receipt.
In accordance with state law no applicant who has been convicted of a felony can be appointed as a Police Officer.
SPECIAL NOTE: The application process above is completed on a predetermined schedule. Failure to complete any portion of the process will result in an application being withdrawn. The Chief of Police interviews only when a vacancy occurs.
