An armed robbery suspect was shot and wounded by a Minneapolis police officer working undercover as a food delivery driver Tuesday night.
The officer, who has not been identified, was working with other officers around 9:20 p.m. near the 1800 block of 15th Avenue S. in response to several recent reports of armed robberies in the neighborhood, police said.
Three male suspects approached the officer, and one of them pointed a handgun at him, police said. The officer shot the suspect twice in the torso. Two other officers were in the area on foot serving as backup to the undercover officer, and one of them also fired his gun.
The adult male suspect was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center, but his condition was not known early today, said police spokesman Sgt. William Palmer. The two other male suspects fled but one, a juvenile male, was arrested nearby, he said. The third suspect remains on the loose.
The plainclothes officer who shot the suspect and the two other officers at the scene, none of whom was identified, will be placed on paid administrative leave for three days, standard procedure in officer-involved shooting.
