Police arrested two men Monday night who allegedly tried to steal an unoccupied, idling vehicle in a South End driveway.
Police received a 911 call at 11:30 p.m. from a resident on Rivet Street who said two men jumped in a silver Mazda that the resident was warming up. The vehicle had been left unlocked, police said.
Officers arriving at the scene quickly found two men who matched the suspects' descriptions. The suspects stopped the vehicle on Bonney Street and ran through nearby backyards.
K-9 Officer Jean Gomes scoured the area and found the suspects hiding in a backyard. Police reports said officers ordered the suspects to surrender, but they resisted, and allegedly kicked an officer.
However, police arrested Mark Antone, 30, of 125 Hillman St., and Jordan Quintal, 22, of 1000 Cross Road, Dartmouth.
Both were charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, disturbing the peace, resisting arrest and malicious destruction of personal property.
Mr. Quintal was also charged with assault and battery on a police officer and giving a false name and Social Security number.
