WAREHAM - Two Wareham residents face drug possession charges after police allegedly found marijuana and a replica Glock 17 handgun in their car during a traffic stop Wednesday night, Wareham Police Lt. Irving Wallace said.
Police stopped Ronald Pena, 21, of 1 Chapel Lane, on Cranberry Highway for driving with an expired driver's license. "The operator was known to (Officer Michael Smith). He knew he had an expired license," Lt. Wallace said.
While speaking with Mr. Pena, Officer Smith allegedly saw a small blue pill on Mr. Pena's lap and several loose pieces of marijuana.
After asking Mr. Pena and his passenger, Dacia Jardin, 20, of 19 Meadowlark Drive, to get out of the car, Officer Smith and Officer Jon Verhaegen allegedly found three small bags of a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana, a glass marijuana pipe containing residue and a small pill wrapped in plastic, Lt. Wallace said.
During the search police also found the replica handgun under the passenger seat, Lt. Wallace said.
Both suspects were charged with possession of Class D and possession of Class E substances for the unidentified pills. Pena was also charged with unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
