TACOMA, Wash. — A man suspected of robbing a bank in Gig Harbor was arrested in Tacoma after a chase that included two patrol cars crashing as they rushed to the scene.
A Tacoma police officer and a Pierce County deputy who were injured in a collision at an intersection were taken to St. Joseph Medical Center.
The robber hit the bank about 10 a.m. Thursday and fled to the Tacoma area where an officer spotted his car. The driver bailed out of his car near the Puyallup River and hid in a wooded area along railroad tracks.
Pierce County sheriff's spokesman Ed Troyer told the Tacoma News Tribune that a Transportation Department camera and KIRO-TV helicopter helped a State Patrol trooper find the man hiding in buses.
Officers also recovered cash.
