I’ve noticed for the past few months that Boston.com’s jobs listings continuously
advertise openings at Tufts for their police and security departments. Does this University really have that much turnover or are they having problems filling these positions with qualified candidates? Or, is it such a bad position no one will take it? Just curious to find out what the deal is.
Thanks

I noticed the same thing. I got a hired there in August but I decided not to take it. The money and benenfits are pretty good, and they have a nice department. But it is your typical private college Police Department with snot nosed kiddies. Maybe no one wants to do that type of policeing anymore.

Tufts has alot of money to spend, so in that respect, its a good department. Ive worked with some of their guys, and most of them are pretty good, although they do have some questionable people also. I believe that they tend to put their "less then preferable" officers at the Boston campus, they dont do much more than sit at a desk and do bank escorts. Would you say thats accurate Hunter? I know that they want the FT MCJTC academy, and they dont like to take SSPO academy, or SSPO waivers, therefor limiting their field of candidates. Just some additional input.

AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH the Boston Campus, thats a horse of a different color. I think they are there own entity,LOL. Well Sauce at least they have a new building to hide in, LOL. I know the Medford Campus is pretty well put together.

Hey Sauce have they moved that cruiser on Harrison Ave yet? Or do they just start it up once in awhile?

No that cruiser mostly sits there, every once in a while when they get bored of sleeping at the desk, theyll move to the cruiser and park on Harvard St. and sleep.

I have been appling to Tufts for some time. If you know any of the brass you may have a good chance. Seems they look for the best and most experianced with full time academy they can get, but have been known to put nephews/cousins--(you get the drift) through the Academy and they end up staying a couple of years at best.
As far as the less desireables going to the Boston campus. If you mean those that don't like to see and hear the nonsense that goes on then you are correct. I happen to know that those Officers work well with the "area A" BPD guys, and are well respected by the community that lives and work there. Some have Masters degrees and do everything all the locals do.
Just a note for thought! We're should be supporting all our brother Officers no matter what they're patchs read, not spreading derogatory remarks about them.

I am not bashing the Tufts Boston guys, I work with them on a regular basis, and have never had anything but good experiences with the officers, Im just relaying what I have heard regarding the Boston Campus. As far as "the Officers work well with the "area A" BPD guys," and "do everything the locals do." Im not exactly sure what you are refering to. Most departments work well with BPD, especially at A-1, as long as you understand and play by their rules, which is completely fine as far as im concerned. As far as "Doing everything the locals do, I hope youre not implying that the TUPD guys in Boston conduct the same patrol activities that BPD does, because they certainly dont. Again, nothing in this post is intended to insult anyone, only to clarify things. As far as respecting and supporting anyone in the LE field, you are correct, the patch should not be the deciding factor, its the ideals, and the work ethic that should drive us to respect each others departments. Thanks again for the input.

Hi,
I happen to work at the Boston Campus and obviously, their are some disgruntled people out there. To set the record straight, the Officers in Boston more than adequately patrol and secure their facilities. Our down time is the same as anyone else out there, but not taken before the job is done. As far as the cruiser is concerned, and anyone who drives in Boston will agree, it faster to walk or run than drive the cruiser around that section of town. As far as environment is concerned we are one of the most safe Campus's in the country, get a crime stats sheet if you doubt me. There available at any one of our stations.

Thanks for listening

I had the choice to go Municiple several times. I stayed with Campus Police by choice. Talk to some old timers on Municiple Police Departments or some of those who left Campus Policing five ten years ago, I'd be willing to bet they wish they stayed with Campus Police. But hey, everyone is looking for different thngs in a job, good luck, I hope everyone enjoys their job like I do.

Thanks for listening,
Mike

OKAY THEN THERE RACER and MikeFo,
Are you guys feeling better now? you got that off your chest

Ok,I'll say this once and then I'm not going to entertain this topic again because thats not what I believe the inventors and contributors intended for this board to be nor is it productive. However I will give this explanation only once.
So cut and paste it and hang it on your locker door if you feel you need a dailey reminder of how HUNTER on mass-net view's the comments or aqusations of a few new members to this board or you can print up a few copy's and leave it in the bathroom for those moments when you run out and no ones around to get you a new roll, suit yourself, whatever makes ya happy.

First off read the post's on this Tuft's topic or any topic on this BB and you will find a varity of opinions ( key word here OPINION).

* o.pin.ion,N. 1.) A belief based on grounds insufficent to produce certainty.2.)a personal attitude or appraisal.3.)the formal expression of a professional judgement.4.)a favorable estimate:esteem.

You can refer to this in the 2nd edition of the Websters Dictionary.

Amendments to the U.S. Constitution.
The first 10 Amendments were ratified December 15,1971, and form what is known as the bill of rights.
*Amendment I*
Congress shall make no law respecting an esablishment of religion,or prohibiting the free exercise thereof: or abridging the freedom of speach or of the press:eek:r the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petittion the goverment for a redress of greivences.

you can refer to this by reading the Constitution of the United States.

With that said I based my opinion on what I see with my own eyes or hear or know to be fact.

As far as being a bombthrower, WHAT BOMBS?. What I said was based on what I saw with my own eyes on a dailey bases,so I dont consider that a bomb it my OPINION!!!!!!! And I would guess your talking about my comment about the Tufts cruiser sitting on Harison ave everyday and night and never moved. I saw it EVERY single day and night the car never moves, NEVER. So you tell me it that a bomb, No it's the truth.Maybe its guilt that made you responded to that comment, I dont know. All I stated was my opinion base on what I saw.

As far the -HACK-O-RAMA- comment oh well it's my opinion again, I happen to know a little about the politics of Tufts University's hiring of Officers
,so again and Opinion based on some of the working knowledge of the inards of hows things are done in that School. But again it only my opinion.

Should I have made the comment about them hiding in there new building out here on the open board, probably not.My mistake it is an opinion I should kept to myself but I did'nt and now it's out in the open so Do I believe thats what goes on over there, absoulutley, and once again base on what I see,oh well.

And easy with the "Smack"? What is this the WWF
ok there fellow officer, maybe I should just pat you on the back and agree with you,Pllllleeeeease if you think I'm one of those guys who agree's with you just because your "supposedly" a fellow officer then your sadly mistaken because you wont find that here with me.I call it like I see it and its not written anywhere that you have to agree either.

I stated my opinion and spoke my mind, do you have to like it? HELL NO! But thats my opinion and if you dont like it then dont read it or respond to it.

At this point I must refer to a quote by the Great Comedian Eddie Murphy:

"IF DONT LIKE IT GET THE f%@K OUT"

Now that this has gotten way

I would say that this should not be taken up in this public forum this subject is geting way out of hand and off topic, and if any other comments need to be expressed they should be done by private message.

The only problem at Tufts is a certain female Lieutenant who thinks she's the sh*t. I spoke to her once, was very rude, maybe she should be checking some doors with her detex clock or wand.

Hi everyone,

I'm still willing to talk about the Tufts University Police Department. So ask away or IM me.
