ASHLAND -
Police said an Ashland man arrested after being pulled over Monday was charged with a different type of traffic offense trafficking in cocaine.
Pedro Geraldino, 38, was arrested on several drug charges after officers stopped his car on Waverley Street because they suspected he was driving drunk, Lt. Richard Briggs said.
Officers Douglas Grout and David Wheeler pulled Geraldino's vehicle over on Waverley Street after seeing it cross over the double yellow lines several times, Briggs said.
They had Geraldino get out and were about to conduct field sobriety tests when they noticed a large bulge in the waistband of his pants, Briggs said.
Worried it may be a weapon, Grout frisked Geraldino. Instead of a weapon, the officer found several small bags of cocaine, Briggs said.
"It was just a fantastic piece of police work," said Briggs. "Officer Grout was very observant of his surroundings and prudent in his officer safety skills."
In all, Briggs said, Grout found 46 grams of cocaine, packaged in several individual bags intended for sale, in Geraldino's pants.
"It's a significant amount of cocaine, and he's a significant dealer in the area," Briggs said.
Geraldino was arrested and his car was seized.
A state police dog searched the vehicle but found no more drugs.
Police also obtained search warrants to search his 24 Pleasant St. home and a second residence at 365 Union Ave., where two more grams of cocaine were found, police said.
Geraldino was charged with trafficking in cocaine of more than 28 grams, possessing cocaine with the intent to distribute, possessing cocaine and using a vehicle during the commission of a felony.
He was also cited for a marked lanes violation.
Geraldino was ordered held without bail pending a detention hearing today in Framingham District Court.
