Human Resources
The City of Topeka Human Resources Department is accepting pre-registration for the entry-level Police Officer civil service examination to be conducted on two dates; Saturday, July 30, 2005 and Friday, August 26, 2005. Applicants only need to participate in one test and can choose which test to attend. An applicant does not need to pre-select which test he/she will attend. If an applicant chooses to take the July 30th test but does not pass that test, the applicant will not be eligible to take the August test, but will have to wait to take the test in a later testing phase. Once registered, applicants will receive a test information packet via U.S. mail prior to the test date.
Persons of color and females are encouraged to apply.
Police Officers are hired from a Civil Service list that is established from a written examination. Successful candidates must pass a written examination, a physical agility test, must have a high school diploma or equivalent, must be a U.S. citizen at least 21 years of age (must be 20 and one half years of age as of the test date to take exam), must be physically fit and able to pass a physical examination, must have valid drivers license, no felony convictions, no DUI convictions or diversions within 3 years of application date, must be a resident of Shawnee County or relocate within 24 months of employment.
