DANIELSON, Conn. (AP) - The mother of a 2-year-old boy has been charged with risk of injury by state police after her son was spotted tottering along a second story ledge outside the family's Danielson apartment Sunday morning.
The ledge is about 20 feet above the ground. Police received several 911 calls around 8:30 a.m., with witnesses saying the boy was crawling or walking along the ledge before he lost his balance and fell onto the metal canopy of a first-story bookstore. He then fell toward the ground before being caught by a citzen who rushed to help.
Police credit Jeffrey Leonard with saving the boy from serious injury.
The mother, Crystal Simmonds, 21, of 87 Main St., was asleep during the incident. She is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 12.
