SANDISFIELD - State police say three men are dead following a traffic accident in the small western Massachusetts town of Sandisfield.
The accident involving four vehicles occurred about 1:10 p.m. Friday in a rural area near the entrance to the Colebrook Reservoir, which runs along Route 8.
State police say a Chevrolet Blazer traveling south on the road crossed the center line, sideswiped a Jaguar, then crashed head-on into a Chevrolet pickup.
Police said 33-year-old Derek Martinez of Waterbury, Conn., the driver of the Blazer, was killed. Also killed were the pickup driver - 64-year-old Robert Bailey - and his passenger, 67-year-old Gerald Williams. Both men were from Thomaston, Conn.
Police say the driver of the Jaguar, 45-year-old Michael Goldstein of Briarcliff Manor, N.Y., was uninjured. Also unhurt was 43-year-old Douglas Taylor of Southington, Conn., whose BMW managed to avoid hitting the pickup but collided with the Blazer after the initial crash.
The accident is under investigation.
