MARLBOROUGH -
Three suspected heroin dealers were arraigned in Marlborough District Court yesterday on felony drug charges following their arrest at a Farm Road apartment complex parking lot Tuesday night.
Jose R. Gonzalez, 34, Rafael A. Gonzalez, 27, and Ivonne Juarbe, 37, entered not guilty pleas. Bail was set at $2,000 for Jose Gonzalez and $1,000 for Raphael Gonzalez and Juarbe.
Jose Gonzales, who was also charged with resisting arrest, had a black right eye and scratches on his right cheek. He wore a white tank top and long jean shorts worn over what appeared to be a pair of medical scrub pants. He shivered uncontrollably for about a minute after entering the courtroom.
The suspects were arrested after police set up surveillance at 799 Farm Road for a planned heroin deal, said Marlborough Police Lt. Robert Jusseaume.
Jose Gonzalez was known to a police informant to sell and deliver large amounts of heroin in Marlborough, Worcester and Leominster, according to court documents.
On Tuesday, police converged on a silver Nissan Pathfinder driven by Juarbe. Jose Gonzalez got out of the SUV on the passenger side, but lunged back when police approached. Police say he tried to punch two officers during a struggle, according to court documents.
Police say they wrestled Gonzalez to the ground and put him in a headlock. According to court documents, Gonzalez swallowed several bags of heroin and police struggled with him for several minutes before handcuffing him.
Rafael Gonzalez and Juarbe cooperated with police, who seized from the SUV one baggy containing a "brown powdery substance" similar to the ones swallowed by Gonzalez, police said. Officers also found a knife between the back seats and a shank.
Gonzalez refused medical treatment for the ingested heroin, police said.
All three were charged with possession of heroin, possession of heroin with the intent to distribute, possession of heroin with the intent to distribute in a school zone and conspiracy to violate state drug laws.
Juarbe was also charged with possession of a Class B substance for having a crack pipe with cocaine residue in her pocket, police said.
