Police last night arrested two men and a woman on drug charges outside a Farm Road apartment complex.
Investigators learned about a planned heroin deal and set up surveillance around the parking lot at 799 Farm Road, according to Detective-Lt. Robert Jusseaume.
Around 5:30 p.m., police converged on a vehicle carrying three people, he said.
One of them, Jose R. Gonzalez, kicked and punched officers who were taking him out of the vehicle, Jusseaume said. Gonzalez also ate small bags containing what police said was heroin. Police wrestled him to the ground and handcuffed him.
Police also found about a gram of heroin in the car, Jusseaume said.
Arrested were Gonzalez, 34, and Ivonne Juarbe, 37, both of 33 White Court, Clinton, and Rafael Gonzalez, 28, of 94 Bellview St., Apt. 2, Worcester.
All were charged with possession of heroin, possession of heroin with intent to distribute, possession of heroin with intent to distribute in a school zone and conspiracy to violate state drug laws.
Jose Gonzalez was also charged with resisting arrest for struggling with the police, Jusseaume said. He refused medical treatment for the material he ingested, he said. He was kept under observation while in custody last night at the police station.
Juarbe was also charged with possession of a Class B substance after police found a crack pipe in his pocket, police said.
The arrests were made by the department's drug enforcement unit and members of the patrol division.
