Horrible horrible stuff....but I don't get CNN...I am sorry that Ben Abels is feared dead...but 1 Who is he? 2. How is his death any more tragic than the other 21,999 deaths?

Just when the Liberal democrats (whining puppies) think they have a lock on "disaster" with the Iraq situation..........

BANG!!!!!!!!!
Mother nature shakes her ass and reminds us how small we really are.

What were these people thinking????
They weren't thinking, they were taking it all in. I wonder how many of them became statistics.

"This umbrella should protect me from the 30ft tidal wave." :stupid:

They apparently knew it was coming, so they lined up at the beach. :ermm:
A crazy look at the tsunami

Hey, don't get me wrong here. It's terrible that 80,000+ people are presumed dead and many thousands more will succum to disease & starvation over there. But what the hell were these people thinking?

Some of those islands are only 3 feet above sea level. Shouldn't these morons or at least the "Gov't" of said volcanic rock be prepared for such an emergency? It's not like a tsunami is not an unheard occurance in the Pacific, albeit this one was huge. It's akin to living in the Himilayan Mountains and not expecting snow or not having a snow shovel or ski's.

The US is kicking in 35M to the relief effort and the UN is taking a "lead" in the effort as well. Since 22% of the UN budget comes from the US anyway, it seems a fair amount we are sending. Hmmmm. I wonder how much those countries sent to the US after the 9-11 attacks?

One must wonder where the outrage of CNN and the Lamestream Media was during the mid 90's while the Hutsi's and Tutsi's in Rwanda were machette killing over 900,000 people in an ethnic cleansing/genocide because of religion and tribal clashes. Klinton turned a blind eye to it but brought Bosnian ethnic cleansers to task. Talk about a double standard.

Apparently in most other parts of the world there are warning devices and systems set up to detect these Tsunami's and to alert the people that they are coming. Places like Japan and Hong Kong and in the Pacific rim have them. Unfortunately, this part of the world hasn't gotten them yet.
my favorite pic is the 8th one down on that guys site where they are unning away laughing. Ha ha

Too bad they didn't all know they were dead

Housingcop, it is pretty simple, really. Let me do the math for you-
Bosnia=white Europeans. Rwanda=Black Africans.
The Hutus and the Tutsis (or the Horribles and Terribles, as we referred to them) simply did not appear on our list of national interests. In Bosnia i Herzegovina, we had the opportunity to stick our thumb in the EUs eye, as it was standing around wringing its hands, wondering what to do. So we showed 'em. We waited til the Serbs slaughtered about 8 thousand in Srebrnica, but we showed 'em.

A more pertinent question would be, "Why Kosovo?"
I was wondering why and did some research, evidently it's a bit less common in the Indian ocean so the resources haven't been really put to protecting that region...sadly we now see this isn't good.

I wonder if NY or CA has a tsunami warning system?

not only is it less common, but they don't have the money to set up the warning system either.
