Motorcycle run raises thousands for Van De Giesen Fund

NORTH ATTLEBORO - About 530 motorcycles showed up Sunday to ride in a memorial benefit for Capt. Kyle Van De Giesen, a local Marine killed in a helicopter crash last October in Afghanistan.

The benefit, organized by North Attleboro native Larry Brunell and sponsored by Shovelhead's Motorcycles, started early in the day at the North Attleboro Middle School, before riding through Plainville, Wrentham, Norfolk and Walpole. The ride ended at Fusion 5 in Foxboro where live music was performed by Crossfire and The Ignitors. Refreshments were provided by Dale's Pig Picking.

Brunell has been a friend of the Van De Giesen family for more than 20 years, and was Van De Giesen's youth baseball coach.

"Joe (Coggeshall) from Shovelhead's, and I were talking, and we figured this was the right thing to do," Brunell said about the reason for the motorcycle run. "We're both veterans and this seemed like a nice way to show our respect to a good family. The amount of people who showed up was amazing. Everything went really well."
