EASTON -
An alert neighbor helped police catch a suspect in a break-in to a motor vehicle this morning.
Deputy Police Chief Allen Krajcik said a teenager was arrested after an Elm Street resident called police around 6:42 a.m. to say there was a suspicious person in the yard.
Officer Charles Hopkins, who responded to the call, later arrested a 17-year-old on charges of breaking into a motor vehicle.
Benjamin Phillips, 17, of 3 Rufus Jones Lane, North Easton, was charged with breaking and entering into a motor vehicle.
Krajcik said the incident highlights the need for residents to call police immediately if they see any suspicious activity in their neighborhoods.
"It worked out here," he said.
Easton and other communities in recent months have noticed an increase in the number of motor vehicle break-ins. Several arrests have already been made.
