BROCKTON -
Investigators recovered more than a dozen shell casings early today from the scene where a 16-year-old girl was shot and wounded, authorities said.
The teen, whose name was not immediately available, was wounded after shots were fired on Ford Street near Coburn Street shortly before midnight, police said.
Based on preliminary reports, police believe the girl was shot in the upper chest area. She was taken to an undisclosed, local hospital for treatment.
The wounded girl was located on West Ashland Street. How she got there was not released.
Bullet holes were found in a house on Ford Street as well as in a car, police said.
Detectives worked throughout the night investigating the case and interviewing potential witnesses.
It was not known if the gunman or gunmen were identified.
Police were searching the area for two black males, both described as about 5-feet, 11-inches, wearing black jeans and hooded jackets.
Witnesses told police that a group of youths were gathered in the area when shots were fired.
Police have received other reports of gunfire in the area in recent months
Gunfire erupted in the nearby Fairmount Avenue area in early September. Police said at the time no serious injuries were reported when the shots were fired, including at least one shot fired from a car at a group of youths gathered at night near 18 Fairmount Ave.
In February, an 88-year-old man was shot in the back in broad daylight Feb. 20 in front of his house by a gunman who then fled.
