Teen shooting gun at woodpile hits neighbor
WEYMOUTH, Mass. -- A 19-year-old man who was shooting a rifle at a woodpile in his backyard shot missed and struck a woman.
John Murphy III was shooting his .22 caliber rifle outside his home at 105 Gilbert Road at about 6 p.m. on Thursday when he struck Debra O'Neil, 50, in her right arm.
Police said that she was outside walking her dog at the time of the shooting.
She was taken to South Shore Hospital, where she underwent surgery for a shattered forearm.
Murphy was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, possession of a firearm without a license and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling. He is scheduled to be arraigned in Quincy District Court Friday.
