A local man who police said bought crack cocaine fled arrest Monday night even after police stunned him with a Taser.
A police officer was on patrol in an marked cruiser when he found Felieca M. Blidgen, a 34-year-old homeless woman, and Edward J. Brown, 48, of 90 Lincoln St., at Arlington and Pratt streets about 8 p.m., said police spokesman Lt. Paul Shastany.
He said the officer drove toward the pair and could see Blidgen trying to get something into a glass pipe, which was visible in the cruiser's headlights. When the officer got out of the car and walked toward the pair, Blidgen put the pipe in her pocket, he said.
The officer could see black and white material in it, said Shastany. Police searched her and also found a bag with a rock of crack cocaine, said Shastany.
Blidgen was arrested at 8:15 p.m. and charged with cocaine possession and conspiracy to violate drug laws.
Police found a piece of small copper wire mesh on Brown, who Shastany said obtained the crack cocaine with Blidgen.
As police tried to arrest Brown, he punched an officer's arm and ran down Arlington Street, said Shastany. He said police tried to use a Taser to stun Brown, but the electric jolt didn't stop Brown from escaping.
Brown was arrested on 7:10 a.m. Tuesday when he turned himself in at police headquarters. He was charged with assault and battery on a public employee, resisting arrest and cocaine possession, said Shastany.
Shastany said after arresting Brown, police found the Taser probes still attached to Brown's clothing.
