An East Boston man rammed an unmarked Weymouth police car with a Jeep in an attempt to escape detectives who wanted him on drug trafficking charges, police said.
Nathaniel Arias, 25, was arrested about 6:45 p.m. Thursday after detectives saw him pull up to a Pleasant Street home where police suspected a drug deal was about to take place, Sgt. Richard Fuller said.
Fuller said police approached Arias after seeing him pull into a driveway in a blue Jeep Grand Cherokee.
"Upon approaching the vehicle, the operator tried to escape by ramming one of the unmarked drug vehicles," Fuller said. "Eventually they were able to stop the vehicle and remove the suspect."
Fuller said after a police car blocked Arias' Jeep in a driveway, he put the Jeep in reverse and smashed into the police car, partially pushing it into the street.
Fuller said detectives recovered from Arias 34 bags of powdered cocaine, worth about $50 a bag, as well as several hundred dollars in cash.
Arias was charged with cocaine trafficking, committing a drug violation near a school, assault with a dangerous weapon, failure to stop for police and driving to endanger.
Fuller said police were led to the Pleasant Street home after receiving information about a drug trafficking operation in Weymouth and nearby towns.
